These increases are effective as from the
date of first appointment, the period of the voyage being
on half pay.

These increases have been granted as a result
of representations by the Consulting Engineers that
the salaries as originally fixed are inadequate and in
some cas s compare unfavourably with those paid to
officers of this Government employed on work of a similar
nature.
The Consulting Engineers point out further that
construction work normally commands higher rates of pay
